RFID Cycle Counting
RFID lets you validate tagged inventory in seconds, then compare what's there against what should be there.

"Yes, I was able to scan 74 tags in a matter of seconds. But the real value is what I was able to accomplish in that amount of time."
Clint, Liberty Systems
Traditional cycle counting takes labor, depends on line-of-sight scanning, and still leaves room for discrepancies. Someone has to walk the location item by item, often pulling time away from receiving or picking. And when inventory is missed or misplaced, the count still has to be reconciled.
No line of sight and no scanning one label at a time. Here's the workflow.
A Zebra RFID printer encodes a label with a unique ID tied to the item record: a specific SKU, lot, or serial.
A Zebra handheld with an RFID sled sweeps the area and reads every tag in range at once, even behind other items.
Software like Vertical Systems identifies each tag and checks it against what your inventory system says should be there.
Instead of a count sheet, your team gets a short list: what's missing, what's in the wrong spot, what shouldn't be there. Fix those and you're done.
| Barcode Cycle Count | RFID Cycle Count | |
|---|---|---|
| How items get read | One label at a time, line of sight required | Every tag in range, in one sweep |
| Time per location | Minutes to hours | Seconds to a few minutes |
| What you get back | A count you still have to reconcile | A list of exceptions, ready to act on |
| Items hidden behind others | Missed, or moved by hand to scan | Read where they sit |
| Finding a missing item | Search by hand | Reader's locate mode points you to it |
