RFID Is More Than Fast Inventory Counts

"Yes, I was able to scan 74 tags in a matter of seconds. But the real value is what I was able to accomplish in that amount of time."

Clint, Liberty Systems

Cycle Counting Costs More Than It Should

Traditional cycle counting takes labor, depends on line-of-sight scanning, and still leaves room for discrepancies. Someone has to walk the location item by item, often pulling time away from receiving or picking. And when inventory is missed or misplaced, the count still has to be reconciled.

How an RFID Cycle Count Works

No line of sight and no scanning one label at a time. Here's the workflow.

1

Tag your items

A Zebra RFID printer encodes a label with a unique ID tied to the item record: a specific SKU, lot, or serial.

2

Walk the location

A Zebra handheld with an RFID sled sweeps the area and reads every tag in range at once, even behind other items.

3

Software compares expected vs. actual

Software like Vertical Systems identifies each tag and checks it against what your inventory system says should be there.

EXCEPTIONS: 3 Missing Wrong spot Unexpected
4

Act on the exceptions

Instead of a count sheet, your team gets a short list: what's missing, what's in the wrong spot, what shouldn't be there. Fix those and you're done.
